Howard Hill

Howard is a relative newcomer to Ibiza, although he has been bouncing around the London private party and cocktail scene for years. During his first season in Ibiza in 2012, when he was resident at Atzaro Beach, Space magazine named him as Best Daytime DJ. That is certainly not to say that he only plays daylight hours but he regularly plays marathon sets of up to 8 hours in which the first few hours will be devoted to creating a convivial atmosphere with lush tunes to accompany conversation and canapés before taking the tempo up for hours of full on dancing as appropriate. Having held residencies at Atzaro Spa hotel and Carl Cox’s beach bar Sands in-between entertaining at countless private villa parties he starts the 2014 season with a Sunday afternoon residency at Pikes Hotel.

He remains one of a relatively small group of DJ’s who’ve consistently championed the ethos of ‘Balearic’ style of Djing ie creating a sunny atmosphere through eclectic selection of genres. While most DJ’s tend to hang their hat on one particular genre Howard recognises that the vibe on which the original Ibiza dance scene was based was one of joyful inclusivity.

His sets blend the best of Jazz, Funk, Latin and Nu Disco with the resonant tones of Minimal and Dub. In fact he enjoys what he calls framing, that is to say that by framing one style of music with contrasting styles he guides the listener through a kaleidoscopic musical journey, introducing them to styles that they might not have thought they would enjoy.

Best Daytime TxtWherever he plays he rapidly builds a following for his infectious, eclectic style. As he notes, ‘The truth is I probably have a short attention span but I like light and shade and the idea that every other track is a surprise. I don’t play records I create atmospheres.’

On top of bar and club work he is regularly booked for corporate gigs including those for MTV, Vivienne Westwood Design & The Prince’s Trust. For the past five years Howard’s eclectika sessions has been building a worldwide following with his regular broadcasts on respected American dance  station Frisky Radio (www.friskyradio.com).
